PC serial number doesn't show up

PC serial number doesn't show up.

Serial number is the basic for asset tracking

Just require Teamviewer to run the following command on the computer

"wmic bios get serialnumber"

    Hi @kvntan

    Thanks for the post.

The command you are mentioning is querying the BIOS chip serial number which is different than the motherboard serial number most companies use to track warranty status.

Can you please let us know why would you need the BIOS serial number? how does this help you in tracking assets?

You need to enter the bios chip serial number for warranty check for Lenovo. We tracked our asset based on bios chip serial number which is indicated on the delivery order as well.

    I agree with kvntan

for Thinkpad the bios serial number is much more useful. Actually the mainboard serialnumber is completly useless in this case.

the bios serial number is printed and shown everywhere (Lenovo Vantage App, Laptop chassies,  Packaging, Invoices, Service Portal, etc.). The Mainboard Serial Number in Contrast is not used at all.

Was this every resolved? I'm trying to ditch our old inventory system and just use TeamViewer for everything but this is a show stopper.
