Cannot get Wake on LAN to work

If there is someone who could live chat with me to figure this out. I have spent 2 days going over all the tutorials i can find and playing with every setting that seems important. I'm just a sad college student who wants to play games on my home desktop 1000miles away from my sad little MacBook air. plz help.
