No authentication window

All of a sudden I am not getting an authentication window to enter the password for the remote computer. All else is fine. I proceed as usual, the message at lower left says "connecting." But no authentication window pops up at all, then after just a little while the lower-left status returns to "ready to connect." What's up with this?

    Hello @reneeh,

    Usually when I experience this issue the remote system is running very slow or something has caused TeamViewer to stop working properly. I'll first try to just restart TeamViewer on the remote system (the service too), if that doesn't work, fully restarting the remote system almost always does.

    TeamViewer user since version 6 (2010). We used other remote software programs (TVNC UVNC PCAny) for many years before.
