No connection at work cause of vpn


Im currently at work and want to connect to my computer at home.
It works perfectly until I log on to my office vpn, then it says "Not Ready. Please check your connection".. My colleague is already connected to his vpn without and he can connect just fine to his computer at home.
What may be the reason for this? Is there any option to make my TeamViewer application not be affected by my VPN?
