Re: TeamViewer thinks I’m using the software commercially!

Click link to get account released, wait forever, click and submit form again, wait some more, click once again and still hearing crickets. On this page https://community.teamviewer.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/Why-do-I-see-Commercial-use-suspected-Commercial-... it asks the question - "Are we trying to force free users into paying for the usage of TeamViewer?" and TV answers no. I call **bleep**, you're just hoping that users give in and pay the blackmail, sorry, upgrade price without knowing they don't have to. Of course, we have to wait forever for our accounts to be cleared and then a few weeks later it locks up again. Sorry, TV, I'm done with you. Will be deleting my account. Knew the writing was on the wall a couple of years ago when you tried something similar. I wouldn't mind paying if you had a reasonable pricing structure for what we're asking but even your so-called discounted $36.75 per month is ridiculous. There are other products out there and I will be switching to them ASAP. Goodbye TV, you were okay while it lasted but now you're **bleep**.

Re: TeamViewer thinks I’m using the software commercially!

I did receive a reply to my "sales inquiry" and concerns of Private vs Commercial use:

"The personal version of TeamViewer is available if you are connecting from one residence to another residence. Any connections to or from a business or server for any purpose will require a license. If you feel you are being flagged as commercial in error, please complete this form https://www.teamviewer.com/en/support/personal-use-verification/"

Please let us know if you would like a quote for a TeamViewer license.

Kind regards,

To which I have kindly replied:

I have bee reading over the several comments on this matter and Team viewer is proving to be a big disappointment.  Myself along with others who have posted have used this tool to help support family and friends; in my case over 1,000 miles away.  Unfortunately the times when I need to help them will be when I am working so yes; the connection starts from a business location and goes to a residential connection.

You are doing this "verification" via the IP address and DO have the ability to tell if it is business to business, business to residential etc.  For that matter, a "private" person could be using it for business purposes based on you own "verification" and they could carry on using it against the set forth terms.  All the while those of us who are abiding by what "Should" be common sense rules are being penalized.

So what team viewer is doing is pushing people away.  I am in the I.T field and based on this experience I can guarantee that in will in no way endorse the use of this product based on what I have seen surrounding this issue;  A lack of customer care or concern.  For me the fix is an easy one; I have and can implement other options.  Since it so happens that I will be at the distant family location next week the timing of this discovery is perfect.  I will implement the changes while I am there and be done with Team Viewer.

Team Viewer needs to get their act together and promote a positive experience for their "Free" edition.  Who know how many more people you are turning off because of the lack of care or concern.  Unfortunately its not just Team Viewer, big corporate companies have lost sight of true customer care and in the end it will cost them.  There is always something new that will come along to fill the void.

So in reply to if I want a quote..... NO!

I am sure that none of my reply will be taken to heart but at this point I really don't care, I have begun to implement my other alternatives and will be done with this "FREE" tool.

Deeply flawed commerical use detection algorithm

Having been a loyal booster of TeamViewer "personal" for many years, I uploaded a YouTube video (11,000 views) which sings the praises of the product.  I know regret that action as I look for alternatives to this unreliable mechanism.

Yes, I said unreliable.  A deeply flawed automated decision has cut me off at the knees without warning.  It does not even mince words, confidently and definitively branding my activity as "commercial use".  It is nothing of the sort.

There are many alternative products on the market.  Adios TV.  It was fun until you pulled the plug and refused to acknolwledge my appeal.  I'll be posting another YouTube soon.  ;-)

Re: Deeply flawed commerical use detection algorithm

I have had the problem before and they were actually really good at getting back to me requesting log files. That resolved the problem quickly as I was not using the program commercially.
Now the problem is back again. They say they will respond in up to 30 days for free users. Well guess what. I have sent several emails to them to try and resolve the exact same issue that I had before but they have not responded to my several emails.
Now the only thing that I will be doing is filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and then maybe I will get some sort of response from them as I really do like the program.

Re: TeamViewer thinks I’m using the software commercially!

Well TV, you have certainly gone off the deep end. First your censoring comments, then you're changing your policies and not telling anyone, then you change your support page, also without telling anyone.

Just yesterday I looked at your support page for this issue - https://www.teamviewer.com/en/support/personal-use-verification/ - and it stated responses would come within 7-days. NOW it says 30-days, translation, NEVER!

I received an email with the following post by user "cmderrx (Henagon)" which has been removed from your community for what I'm guessing is negative comments. Have your ready any of the negative comments in this thread? I'm guessing not because they would all be banned.

In the comment below the OP quotes the following:

"The personal version of TeamViewer is available if you are connecting from one residence to another residence. Any connections to or from a business or server for any purpose will require a license. If you feel you are being flagged as commercial in error, please complete this form https://www.teamviewer.com/en/support/personal-use-verification/"

I have been looking all over your website and cannot find this anywhere, but it makes sense that this is the justification you're using for booting all these valid users off the free version (by the way, calling it fremmium is a joke) and forcing them to the overpriced commercial version. I'm guessing your using IP addresses to determine if a business location is being used, that doesn't work. If I connect to my home computer from a hotel, that hotel IP address will, I'm guessing, show up as a business IP address and I'll be flagged. I personally do use it access my home computers from my business office, which according to the statement above is commercial use. When I access my personal computer from Starbucks using their WiFi that's a business location, gonna flag me for that? How is accessing my personal computer from a business location commercial use? By the way, that is how many of your user use the software and they are using it only for their personal use. It's not commercial.

But you go ahead TV, keep driving customers away. I personally will be switching to **Third Party Product** (go ahead, ban/censor me for mentioning a competing product). Yes, **Third Party Product** is a pay product but $60 per year is quite reasonable, your $49 per month is not even close. And in many ways, **Third Party Product** is a far superior product anway, so switching won't be a problem.

So up yours TV (because that's what you're saying to all of us), you've lost a loyal (no more) customer who had been happy with your product for many, many years, not now. Not ever again.

Here's the full email that the OP had submitted, go ahead and delete it again (can't take a little criticism can we?) I don't care.

Bye bye TV.

Non-Profit Account Stopped Working

I have had a non-profit Team Viewer Account for some time.  As of last week, I could no longer connect remotely.  When I checked the system locally, the system ID had changed from a number it has had since I began to a 10 digit number.  When I connect, I am warned about being a commercial user, and get disconnected after 30 seconds (it says 5 minutes, but it is closer to 30 seconds).

Thanks,

Robert

Free license usage level restrictions and Commercial license

Hello,

I will be urging my clients and colleagues away from TeamViewer.

The reason is due to this recent message I received from TeamViewer installed on my personal computers:

"Sorry for the Interruption, your usage level has crossed the FREE user allowance. To continue using TeamViewer, you'll need to upgrade to a business solution"

I am sorry to have to go this direction, but I feel I have supported TeamViewer over the years as a good product. I have suggested it to my clients and friends. And I have used it as an employee in commercial settings with a valid commercial license, as well as my personal life.

I use Dropbox in a commercial setting, and feel it is worth what I pay for it on a monthly basis. I gladly pay the fee, since I am legitimately using it for commercial purposes.  And their FREE limits were clearly stated at the beginning, and are not subject to being pulled if you reach the limit of space. So I can interact with family and friends on the same platform that I do business on.

Your practice of growing your business using Free licenses is a valid one. Not being upfront and transparent that there are time limits, as Dropbox is, and pulling ALL access if the limit is exceeded, is not. And when I started using TeamViewer more than 10 years ago, I am somewhat certain these restrictions were not part of your business plan. The onus to provide clear rules is on the contract writer, not the reader. This is what courts expect, and support, and should be at the back of anyones mind who writes agreements or contracts, whether on a web page Free license agreement or on paper. A contract is not law and can be invalidated in a court. You should be clear and upfront on your Free license as is expected by any reasonable court or person.

I am grateful for the free use. However, my issue comes with the time and effort I have spent learning your software, installing it to manage various personal computers and family member computers, and then having the rug pulled out from under me after all this time investment.

You have the majority of the market share at the moment. But if you keep pulling free licenses, those users are often employees of companies who use TeamViewer for commercial purposes, and there will inevitably be some blowback. In my case, I estimate that license to be over 10,000 seats for my employer (about half the employees), and countless more for our close colleagues and clients.  This is in addition to lost sales from lack of future recommendations.  I will recomend in the future that they look for alternatives to TeamViewer in good competitor products who would welcome larger clients. It would be resonable to understand that some of us do have direct lines to the IT managers and CTOs for larger regions such as Eastern North America and parts of South America, if not world wide.

In this day of social media, I am very surprised that your current tactics are those that were used in the past 2 decades, and have since rejected by most of the major tech companies who realised the effect of blowback on their shareholders.

I would be very open to you contacting me to discuss this if you feel my assessment is unfair.

Regards,

David

Re: Trial Period Over for Personal Use???

I am retired in and live in Medellin.   Every day I help my grandma a few times in Austria who is in her 90s.  My grandma finds problems every day, so she can talk to me.  Is this commercial use? I cannot connect to her for over 30 seconds.  Seems there was a change, so you guys could make money!  I am okay with that but if TeamViewer is no longer free why do you claim it is?

Re: "Commercial use suspected", but free users can't submit a ticket, so... ?

When I sent my ticket in 2 weeks ago, I listed all of the computer TV IDs that I use the program on - 5 machines in my family. I read another thread about IDs getting changed to a 10-digit number with no waning, so I checked them all. One of the 5  (a MAC) had a new 10-digit ID. The others were unchanged. So I dodged that bullet.

I mainly initiate TV links from computer "A". I never got a response to my ticket, but the pop ups and disconnects stopped on computer A, so I thought TV reviewed my tickets and reset my account as Personal. Last night I had to link from computer "B" to computer "A". I promptly got a pop up that commercial use was detected. This computer is in my house. I did not get disconnected but I was afraid to start the process I needed to do on the remote computer because I kept expecting the link to be terminated any second. I guess I could open another ticket, but I never got a response to the first one. I don't know if I have been "cleared" as personal or not.

That’s the problem. I can't trust TeamViewer anymore. I don’t know the status of my account, or the ticket I submitted. I don't know if I am going to be allowed to link or not, and if I do link, I don't know how long the link will be "permitted", I found myself trying to rush through what I was doing before I got disconnected. I depend on this program to be reliable and now I can't trust it. Maybe that is a lot to expect for free. I guess TeamViewer thinks so. Whatever the case, their minimum license fee of $49 per month is way to expensive considering the options out there.

I have already set up most of the computers I monitor with another program that is doing everything I need with the free version. I still like TeamViewer's look and feature set more, but I just can't depend on it anymore. Once I get settled in with my new solution, I suppose I will delete TeamViewer from all systems I access. It's a shame really. Maybe TeamViewer management will come around and respond to their loyal users with a reasonable baisc license. Until then, its time for a change.

Re: Faulty "commercial usage" detection

Now THIS is hilarious!

I just started a chat with sales and they closed the chat when I mentioned this commercial use fiasco. I guess negative attention is still attention, but I put my kids in time out for such nonsense.

Waiting a month to receive a reply is a total insult. I think it's an intentional move, but can't prove that. Still, there is conflicting information on what is or isn't commercial use. I've seen that connecting to personal machines is OK , and then that any connections from a corporate computer (even only OUT bound to a personal PC) is considered corporate use. Even for no money or compensation (i.e. free use).

Overpriced to say the least, when I mentioned to the sales staff that they should have a mid-tier, personal use, $29/year version, they closed the chat on me. Ridiculous. Instead of immature and unprofessional measures, TV needs a sales department overhaul apparently. Maybe the upcoming purchaser will clean house and do this with the remaining sales staff.

I'm sorry, but sales can't be so busy with selling commercial licenses that they are unable to help with this technical failure. This is the third time I've been hit unfairly with commercial use suspicion. And it's just not true, dagnabbit!

Sorry TV, if you ever wanted free users to become paid ones, you totally dropped the ball.

I actually called about my ticket. It sounded like the lady who answered was trying to read from a script. Then she hung up on me! I never got a chance to give her my ticket number and request status before I was hung up on. I wasn't nasty and did not say anything that would warrant being hung up on. Unreal!

I see TV has a NEW VERSION out but the release notes make NO MENTION of the "FALSE COMMERCIAL USER" FLAG.

I have REMOVED TV from ALL of my PC's and found and installed a GREAT FREE software tool that allows me to "RDP" in to them that is much faster, uses less RAM and does NOT need to use a 3rd party server that might want block or monitor my NON-COMMERCIAL usage. It only uses my LOCAL LAN for in-house connections!

TV can go -blank- themselves!

I encourage you to NOT use TeamViewer

My ID was banned randomly on suspicion of being used commercially. I've tried everything to contact TeamViewer about this and cannot. I have been unable to use TeamViewer for a week now, with no response from the support team.

I have NEVER used TeamViewer commercially. This was done randomly for no reason. I do not believe TeamViewer gives a **bleep**. Really unfortunate.

I can't recommend TeamViewer anymore, move on. I will be encouraging all my friends, family and acquaintances to use a different program.

EDIT: I was unbanned. But I still haven't heard anything back from TeamViewer. Very peculiar, honestly.

No more free license

Well, I've used Teamviewer for years and years. I'm retired and a snow-bird. I have several computers I use as well as friends and relatives to maintain. I'm suddenly, after all these years, "commercial". I do have my own mail server and web server. They're not commercial however. My domain was set up in 1994 to help me learn and I just kept it.

From what I read, apparently having any kind of server makes you commercial. Most of my TV connections are to check my automation (a server) to keep my lights working. I also check my thermostats in the house.

I put in a ticket some time ago but it, apparently, went the same place my ticker from a year ago went.

I'd be happy to purchase a license but the price you've set is way out of reach for a guy living off of Social Security. Thanks, however, for all those years of help and support. It's appreciated.

Re: TeamViewer thinks I’m using the software commercially!

Until recently, it was probably the best program of its kind on the market. I used it to help my family and friends. Unfortunately, currently it is no longer available as a free license for non-commercial uses.
Information: "License: free, excluding commercial use" is not true!
The program always states that it is used commercially. Pathetic!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do niedawna był to chyba najlepszy tego typu program na rynku. Używałem go do pomocy rodzinie i znajomym.

Re: TeamViewer thinks I’m using the software commercially!

I have founf a solution however not the best one. Since I have all my data backed up, I decided to reset to the original Windows 10 Pro settings on my client laptop which bascially is the same as re-installing old Windows versions which erases all data unless you choose the option to keep your files only. Since I only use my laptop to use TeamViewer to take over my main computer (host), I didnt have any important data on it. After I reset Windows 10, I reinstalled TeamViewer only on the client laptop, not my main computer which is the host. So far, I have not been getting any warnings regarding commercial use and it's 1 month. Again, this sounds like a harsh solution, however it is a soltion that worked for me. You can keep your same account with all your friends and family on your original account, those will not go away. You still use your same username and password after reinstalling Windows 10 and reinstalling TeamViewer.. Hope this helps.

Re: TeamViewer thinks I’m using the software commercially!

Yes,that's the most pathetic part of all. They "guarantee" 30 days response/fix (which better for them than fix the bug in the so called algorithm in the backend). They simply don't want free users anymore (even the god-complexed admins sais different things). 30 days are enough to choose alternate, free and better solutions.
Unfortunately teamviewer doesn't care about the free customers anymore. They never resposnse any tickets or requests (the admins of tbis forum are not tv supporters), they simply ignore them. That's the fact.
