This article applies to all TeamViewer users.

General

TeamViewer is a software which can be used for remote access, online collaboration and digital networking. The software is available in different versions and different modules and works on a wide range of platforms and operating systems.

Note: This article explains TeamViewer with the new user interface launched in TeamViewer 13. Screenshots are taken on a Windows operating systems. The entire feature set specified here, unless otherwise stated, relates to the Windows version. For the exact functionality of other versions, refer to the respective test version for Mac / Linux / iOS / Android / Universal Windows Platform / BlackBerry.

TeamViewer full version

Description

The TeamViewer full version is the main product of the TeamViewer software and can be used for various scenario and includes the largest set of features to connect to partners, accept incoming connection requests, start or join meetings, transfer files or use the chat feature.

Environment.

The full version is classically being used by the person who is starting or establishing a TeamViewer connection.

The TeamViewer full version is available for WindowsMac and Linux .

The Remote Control tab 

The Remote Control tab is divided into the following areas:

Allow Remote Control, Unattended Access and Control Remote Computer

Allow Remote Control

 In this area, you will find your TeamViewer ID and your temporary password.

Note: If you share this information with your partner, he or she will be able to connect to your computer.

By clicking the round-arrow icon in the Password field, a context menu will appear for changing the temporary (random) password or for copying it to the clipboard (Windows copy & paste function). In addition, you can define a personal password here.

Unattended Access

This area gives you a quick and brief overview over the current status for unattended access. Additionally you can enable and disable the following settings with a single click:

  1. Start TeamViewer with Windows
  2. Assign device to account
  3. Grant easy access

NoteGrant easy access requires an account assignment.

Control Remote Computer

To control a computer remotely, enter its ID in the Partner ID. In addition, various connection modes are available:

  • Remote control: Control your partner's computer or work together on a single computer.
  • File transfer: Transfer files from or to your partner's computer.
  • VPN: Create a virtual private network with your partner. (*not displayed in the screenshot above)

The Meeting tab 

The Meeting tab is divided into the following areas: Start Meeting, Schedule Meeting and Join Meeting.

Start Meeting  

In the upper left area for Start Meeting, you can start an Online Meeting with TeamViewer. Please select from the following options:

  1. Presentation: Click the icon to host an instant meeting
  2. Video call: Click the icon to host a video conference
  3. Phone: Click the icon to host a conference call

You can also schedule meetings for a later or recurrent use and start scheduled meetings.

Schedule meeting

In the lower left area you can schedule your meetings. There are several opetions available. 

My meetings

Note: To use this feature, you need to be signed in with your TeamViewer account.

In the My meetings window, you can create new meetings, start, edit and delete a scheduled meeting or invite people to your scheduled meetings. These meetings will be available in all TeamViewer full versions, where you sign in with your TeamViewer account.

Schedule a meeting

In the Schedule a Meeting window you can schedule a meeting dor a specific project or topic. You can define a subject for the meeting, the date and time for the start and end of the meeting and the respective timetone. Additionally, you can generate a password for this specific meeting and save the meeting for a later reuse. This makes sense if this meeting is taking place recurrently with the same people at the same time.

Configure Conference Call

When scheduling a meeting you can predefine your preferred conference mode

  1. Phone
  2. Voice over IP

If you are choosing Phone as conference mode, you can define, if you would like to use TeamViewer conference data or your own custom conference data.

Join Meeting

In the upper right are for Join Meeting, you can enter a Meeting ID and your name in the text fields Meeting ID and Your name. 

The Meeting ID is a unique number that is being created individually for every meeting and serves for joining meetings. During a meeting, your name is visible to all participants. To join a running meeting as a participant, simply click on the button Join Meeting after typing in the correct meeting ID. 

Note: The "m" and the dashes in the meeting ID will appear automatically.

The Computers & Contacts tab

In the Computers & Contacts tab, you can centrally manage computer and contact data of TeamViewer connection partners. You can see at a glance which computer or contact is available and you can start a meeting directly.

Computers & Contacts also offers other useful functions similar to an instant messenger.

The Computers & Contacts list is linked to your TeamViewer account. This means that your contact information is not tied to a specific computer but is stored in a central location. This lets you access your contacts from any computer running TeamViewer.

After being signed in with your TeamViewer Account, you can see all your groups and saved computers and contacts. Via the Computers & contacts tab you can start different actions:

  • See your computers and contacts online
  • Send messages to your contacts using the Group Chat, Offline Messages or blacklist contacts for chat.
  • Access and manage your computers and contacts from anywhere in the world.
  • Use ITbrain capabilities
  • Use servicecamp capabilities
  • Share groups
  • Predefine connection settings for individual computers, contacts and groups.
  • Add remote computer
  • Add contact
  • Add new group
  • Search for Nearby contacts and computers (in the same network)
  • Open the Management Console
  • Open the service queue 
  • Create session codes
  • Quickly set up a connection without the need to enter connection information.
    • Start a remote control sessions 
    • Start a file transfer 
    • Send a file 
    • Start a presentation
    • Start a video call

The chat tab allows you to communicate with the contacts in your Computers & contacts list via text messages. From the chat tab, you can also start a remote control session, a presentation or a video call with the person you are chatting with.

You can have 1:1 chats with a single person or you can have group chats with mulitiple persons.

The chat history will be saved until you clear the chat history manually.

The Top-Menu

The TeamViewer full version has a Top menu which is visible on all sub-tabs.

On the right side you see the Instant Connect field. Here you have access to Remote control, File transfer and VPN functions instantly on all tabs of the TeamViewer full version to connect to partner IDs without navigating back to the Remote Control tab.

Note: To use the VPN feature you have to install the VPN driver first via the TeamViewer advanced options.

Hint: You can also jump directly into some options directly by making a right-click on the tray icon:

The Host module

Description

TeamViewer Host is classically being used for 24/7 access to remote computers, which makes it an ideal solution for uses such as remote monitoring, server maintenance, or home-office access.​

Environment

Typically, TeamViewer Host is installed as a system service on servers or on unattended computers that you wish to administer remotely at any time. Computers on which TeamViewer Host is installed can be administered with TeamViewer immediately upon system start (and before Windows login). 

The TeamViewer Host is available for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android.

You will find your TeamViewer ID and your temporary password (if enabled). 

If the temporary password is disabled and a password for unattended access is set, you will only see the TeamViewer ID on the Host module.

By clicking on the OK Button the Host module will minimize into the tray menu.  

You can adjust the TeamViewer settings for the Host module by right-clicking the TeamViewer icon in the tray menu and selecting Options or by clicking on the gear wheel above the TeamViewer ID.

You will see that the TeamViewer options of the Host module is having less settings than the full version. This is due to the fact, that outgoing connection and meetings are not possible. All relevant and important settings are available.

Note: Outgoing connections are not possible with the TeamViewer Host module. For outgoing connections use the TeamViewer full version.

Customized Host module

You can customize the appearance of TeamViewer Host based on your needs by adding your own logo, text and user-defined colors in the Management Console under Design & Deploy.

Hint: The language of the customised module will adapt to your browser language

If the setting Allow customer to initiate a service case is enabled, there will be a Help me Button visible on the Host module. This will allow users to inform their supporter, when they have the need for assistence.

The QuickSupport module

Description

TeamViewer QuickSupport is an application in the form of a single executable file and it lets you accept incoming remote control connections but does not allow you to set up outgoing connections yourself. 

Environment

You can run this file without installing any software or without Windows or Mac OS administrative rights.

Typically, you would provide this module to your customers. You can create your own TeamViewer QuickSupport module with your own welcome text and company logo as well as other useful functions in the TeamViewer Management Console.

The TeamViewer QuickSupportis available for WindowsMacLinux , Android, iOS and Windows 10 Mobile device (Preview).

Allow Remote Control

You will find your TeamViewer ID and your temporary password for connections to the QuickSupport module.

If you created your own QuickSupport module with the setting enabled Automatically add users to a group in your Contacts list the QuickSupport will show a service case number and a name field instead of the TeamViewer ID and the password.

Note: Connections to customizes modules require a valid TeamViewer license.

You can adjust the TeamViewer settings for the QuickSupport module by clicking on the gear wheel above the TeamViewer ID. QuickSupport_2.png

You will see that the TeamViewer options of the QuickSupport module is having less settings than the Host module or the full version. This is due to the fact, that only incoming connections are possible and the QuickSupport is designed as an executable file. All relevant and important settings are available.

Note: Outgoing connections are not possible with the TeamViewer QuickSupport module. For outgoing connections use the TeamViewer full version.

Customized QuickSupport module

You can customize the appearance of TeamViewer QuickSupport based on your needs by adding your own logo, text and user-defined colors in the Management Console under Design & Deploy.

If the setting Automatically create SOS Button is enabled, there will be a SOS Button visible on your customers desktop after you finished your first remote control session. This will allow users to inform you later, when they have the need for assistence again.

The QuickJoin module

Description

TeamViewer QuickJoin is an application in the form of a single executable file that was developed specifically for participation in online presentations and meetings.

Environment

You can run this file without installing any software or without Windows or Mac OS administrative rights.

Typically, you would provide this module to your customers who wants to participate in your online meetings and presentations which you can start with the TeamViewer full version.

The TeamViewer QuickJoin is available for Windows and Mac.

Join meeting

The TeamViewer QuickJoin module is showing all relevant information on the main view. QuiCkJoin_1.png

 

The participants can start the TeamViewer QuickJoin module and enter the connection data of the meeting (Meeting ID and password, if necessary), which they receive from the organisator of the meeting, to connect to the meeting.

In addition, participants can type their name in the Your name text field. The name will be visible for every participant  during a meeting.

Note: Connections to customizes modules require a valid TeamViewer license.

You can adjust the TeamViewer settings for the QuickJoin module by clicking on the gear wheel above the Meeting ID field. 

Note: Starting a TeamViewer Meeting is not possible with the TeamViewer QuickJoin module. Forstarting a meeting use the TeamViewer full version.

Customized QuickJoin 

You can customize the appearance of TeamViewer QuickJoin based on your needs by adding your own logo, text and user-defined colors in the Management Console under Design & Deploy.

TeamViewer Portable

Description

TeamViewer Portable generally comprises all of the functions of the TeamViewer full version but is not installed and can therefore be started from any data carrier (such as an USB stick or a CD). Additional configuration information is available in the download package.

Note: To use the TeamViewer Portable you will need a valid TeamViewer Premium or Corporate license.
