Ubuntu update erases settings

When Ubuntu server 18.04 updates Teamviewer from its repositories it erases Teamviewer's previous settings. If I use apt to uninstall and then resinstall Teamviewer, all of the previous settings magically reappear. My guess is that this should not be happening, but I don't know how to resolve the issue.
