Teamviewer does not open on Ubuntu 16.04

Installed the latest 15.3.2682 deb version. It installs but never opens. It shows a breathing icon on my launcher when forced to open and then disappers afterwards without opening teamviewer gui.

    Hi @srikanthviit

I just wanted to make known (probably you know it) that in Linux exist 2 ways to install the TeamViewer app.

The first is by following the steps of this post.

The second from the Terminal,  by following these steps:

To download TeamViewer: Open your terminal and download the latest TeamViewer .deb package with the following wget command:

    wget https://download.teamviewer.com/download/linux/teamviewer_amd64.deb

To Install TeamViewer .deb package: By using the following command as a user with sudo privileges:

    sudo apt install ./teamviewer_amd64.deb

At the prompt Do you want to continue? [Y / n], type Y to continue the installation

    Ready!

I hope this to solve it for you

    Best regards

  • Hello there,

Thanks for your reply. I have teamviewer installed, it just does not open. The issue I am facing is very similar to this post: https://community.teamviewer.com/t5/Linux/Teamviewer-12-don-t-show-GUI-on-Ubuntu-16-04/m-p/4216

    Hello

Yes, I read it, but I suggest to uninstall it and reinstall it once again for begin.

Maybe it sounds **bleep**, but may solve it!

  • I did that with no avail. I followed the solution in this post:

    https://askubuntu.com/questions/764228/teamviewer-11-wont-run-on-ubuntu-16-04-64-bit

The second solution of the post you linked, it says with more words to do the steps that I wrote at the beginning, with some steps more, to delete the folder in the ~\.local\share\ folder, then update ubuntu, and reinstall TeamViewer.

To update Ubuntu (I believe you know it) run from Terminal the command sudo apt-get update

    Have you tried this?

  • Yes, I did that earlier and checked it again. Its fully updated. Still teamviewer refuses to open.

    Hi @srikanthviit,

try to re-read the question posted on the askubuntu portal that you have also reported. There is an update right under the initial request: it points to an interesting document that talks about a generalized problem of the Ubuntu 16.04 distribution with third-party software, not just TeamViewer.

It would seem that a workaround exists for this problem, but I personally advise you not to undertake it if you have the alternative of being able to update the system to the latest version of Ubuntu 19.10 or wait for 20.04.

  • Upgrading Ubuntu is not an option at the moment. Any other solutions?
