Data usage on remote PC

I am getting messages from my home ISP (cable broadband) that I have exceeded my monthly data limit. Is it possible that using TeamViewer from work to view my home system is causing the problem? They are showing the majority of the data is download which seems not to make sense on the remote PC side. Appreciate any input or theories anyone has for me.
