Tried connecting to a newly installed MAC OS and getting message saying the MAC version is an old on

Trying to help out a friend - he has a Mac, I use Windows. He downloaded the TeamViewer version for MacOS, installed it, gave me his ID and I tried to connect from Windows version 15.11.6 and it comes up saying:
"The remote TeamViewer is running an old version which is out of date. Therefore you cannot connect to this version anymore.Your connection partner can update TeamViewer by clicking on "Help" - "Check for new version"."
He did this, and received the message to the effect that he was already on the latest version!
