how to you get the default size of the columns in file transfer to remember previous sizes

Everytime we open file trans window, the columns are compressed so they have to manaully be expanded. not sure when this started to happen, but it is painfully annoying becuase it is always smaller than the fields and useless without performing this task over and over. Anyone know a way around this issue or how to reset whatever it is that causes it?
