Remote control from a Macbook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) not working

I am trying to access an iMac from an older Macbook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012). I see the desktop, but unfortunately neither mouse, nor keyboard input is getting through. I have checked all settings for remote control and all is marked as 'allowed'.
Any suggestions what might be wrong?

I seem to have gotten it wrong. It's not the accessing TV that doen't respond, it's the receiving TV...
