This article applies to all TeamViewer IoT users.

TeamViewer IoT enables you to access web applications of your IoT device over the internet. Remote access means that you will have access and control over the remote web applications. The known features within a remote control session like file transfer or others are not available.

Hint: If you have a Premium or Corporate license linked to your TeamViewer account, you are also able to log sessions for reporting via the TeamViewer Management Console.

    Requirements

These requirements must be fulfilled to remotely access the IoT device via TeamViewer:

    • The remote device must be set up with a TeamViewer IoT agent
    • A webserver including web applications need to be set up on the remote device
    • The remote device must be connected to the Internet

Set up webserver on remote device for remote access

As an example, you can find a description on how to set up a webserver on an ARM based Raspberry Pi.

To run a web server on a Raspberry Pi, first an operating system must be loaded on the Pi. Installing Operating System from an image is easy, the details can be found on the below link along with the guidelines for installation. It is recommended to use the official Raspbian OS.

Once the Raspbian OS (or any other OS) is up and running, a webserver can be installed and configured on the Pi. Various web servers are available, with different advantages for usage. Below you can find several guides for different web servers installations.

Additional to these examples, other web servers that can listen on port 80 are also supported.

    openHAB

For home automation systems, the webserver openHAB is quite common. It can also be configured to work on port 80 instead of 8080 (default config).

Please find guidance on how to install and configure ports under the following links:

How to remotely access an IoT device

Connections to IoT devices is either possible through you TeamViewer IoT dashboard or after login with your TeamViewer account to either the TeamViewer Management Console or via the Remote Control tab in the TeamViewer full version.

As all IoT devices will be also added to your TeamViewer Computers & Contacts list, you will be able to directly connect to them via the Computers & Contacts list as well.

Follow these steps, to remotely access a managed device from within your TeamViewer IoT dashboard.

    1. Go to https://teamviewer-iot.com and log in with your TeamViewer account credentials.
    2. Open up the Devices tab on the left-hand side.
    3. Click on the Control button in the last column of the table. The locally installed TeamViewer will open and connect. As easy access is used, it is not necessary to enter a password.

Follow these steps, to remotely access a managed device from within your TeamViewer full version.

    1. Open the TeamViewer full version and log in to the Computers & Contacts list.
    2. Go to the My Computers group in the Computers & Contacts list (this might differ, as the IoT devices are added to the oldest group in you list).
    3. Double-click the dedicated device. A connection will be established. As easy access is used, it is not necessary to enter a password.
