How can I look up why a patch deploy fails?

I just recently started using the Patch Mgmt in a production capacity. I get quite a few notifications with a status of "Deployment failed" with details - "File Download failed". Where can I get more details about these? I'm not enjoying tracking all these down.

I have the same question. Not sure where to find the answer to this.

  • When I ask tech support, the answer was to setup the event log alerts. They didn't say which event IDs to look for though. I don't know why they just can't display the event log entry with the failure.

Don't you hate the stupid "error code" that you have to look up? Why can't they just display the "error text". This goes for ALL applications and windows.

  • I made some progress. Check the Event Viewer Setup log for Event ID 3 - Source WUSA. Looks like this:

"Windows update could not be installed because of error 2359302" (which means it's already installed) Why doesn't TV Patch management know this. The engineers still have a lot of work to do with this product.

Here is a list of error codes for this event http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive/windows_update_codes.htm

Why can't this be put in details section of the alert?
