How to protect yourself from invoice scams
Protecting yourself from invoice scams is crucial in today’s digital age. Here are some practical tips to help you stay safe.
Verify the sender is TeamViewer
- Always check the sender’s email address. Scammers often use addresses that look similar to legitimate ones but may have slight variations. For invoices, TeamViewer uses the domain noreply-accounting@teamviewer.com.
- For Google and Apple platforms, TeamViewer implemented Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI), which essentially validates e-mails from TeamViewer domains so that users see them delivered with a check mark for validation.
- If you receive an invoice from an unfamiliar sender, contact TeamViewer directly by calling the TeamViewer Support team or by chat to address the verification of its authenticity.
Examine the invoice details
- Look for inconsistencies in the invoice, such as incorrect TeamViewer logos, unusual formatting, or spelling and grammatical errors.
- Verify the invoice number and compare it with previous invoices from TeamViewer.
Use secure payment methods
- Avoid making payments through insecure or unfamiliar methods. You can find our supported payment methods and our wire transfer details at
- Be cautious of invoices requesting payment via cryptocurrency – TeamViewer will NEVER use this payment method.
For companies and enterprises: Implement internal controls
- Establish a process for reviewing and approving invoices. Ensure that multiple people are involved in the approval process to reduce the risk of fraud.
- Use accounting software that can flag suspicious invoices and track payment history.
Monitor your accounts
- Regularly review your bank and credit card statements for unauthorized transactions.
- Set up alerts for large or unusual transactions to catch potential fraud early.
By following these steps, you can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to invoice scams. Stay vigilant and always double-check before making any payments. If you suspect you’ve received a fraudulent invoice, report it to your financial institution and local authorities immediately.
