Hi Peoples - would like to highlight a most disturbing "compromise" which occurred when I linked up to another machine via Teamviewer (Free version). The remote user had reported an issue with MS Excel to be investigated.
On hooking up to remote; - initally all appeared OK as expected... but then clicking on any icon or anywhere on the desktop invoked a link up to https/go.microsoft/fwlink/528882 which subsequently invoked Bing "start up" page.
To all intent & purpose it appeared that the remote had suffered a "Browser hack" (end user had NOT observed such issue). All attempts to work round failed, leading to communications (recorded) with Microsoft Support.
MS techies hooked in to investigate and confirmed the remote desktop was compromised.
Much investigation, frustration & attempts to resolve eventually cured the issue - I could detail such but it would be a long & arduous write-up.
I finish with the following warning; - the apparent machine compromise was ONLY present whilst the master & remote were linked via Teamviewer. Both devices were Win 10 v20H2 with Teamviewer v15.14.5
Conclusion: - it appears that Teamviewer link-ups may be hacked!!!
Sincerely, "Bebbspoke"
