TeamViewer keeps opening at startup

I installed TeamViewer on my home computer long time ago just to get access to it from my smartphone when I'm away. I would like to have TeamViewer running on this computer silently in the background, as I don't use the program when working on my computer. I also want TeamViewer to always start automatically with Windows, as sometimes when I'm away, I'm able to turn on my computer remotely and then use TeamViewer to access to it. So TV needs to start automatically when computer starts. Previous versions of TV were starting just in tray, so when I was sitting by my computer, the Windows started, and then TeamViewer started only in system tray. This was very good, as I didn't see TeamViewer opening. After one of the updates TeamViewer started to pop-up fully maximized on my screen after logging to windows. This is very annoying, as everytime I turn on my computer and login I need to close TeamViewer window manually as I never need it. I just want TeamViewer running in background in system tray. Can this be fixed?

    Hi @jdredd,

Thank you for asking this - very exciting topic.

First of all, I tried to reproduce the same behavior on my demo laptop, but everything is working as expected.

Please ensure Start TeamViewer with Windows is enabled in the Option's General tab and that Close to tray menu is also enabled in the Advanced tab.

As far as I understood, the computer you mentioned is just the target computer (the one you connect TO). And what you want is basically just that the computer is always reachable, as long as it's turned on.

If the above is correct, I have the ideal solution for you: the TeamViewer Host.

The purpose of the TeamViewer Host is to enable unattended access to a computer or device, allowing remote control and support even when the user is not present. TeamViewer Host runs as a service in the background and is always online and reachable.

Therefore, I recommend uninstalling the full client from your computer and installing TeamViewer Host instead. It will always run in the background (in the Windows tray), and you'll always be able to connect to it remotely.

You can download it from our website: https://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/

    Let me know your thoughts!

Thank you for the anwer. "Close to tray menu" is checked in my options and it's working fine, because when I click "x" icon to close teamviewer window it will go to system tray. But I'm afraid this is not what I need. I don't want teamviewer to open a window at all when starting. Some previous verions was working like the following - when teamviewer started automatically with Windows it just started in the system tray without opening a window. After the update to the newer looks teamviewer started to open fully everytime on Windows startup. Of course I tried to uninstall and install again but no luck.

So you say this is only on my computer? **bleep**. I thought that this is some major change upon new version. OK, I will try the TV Host. Thanks.

  • I am experiencing the same issue with one of the systems I monitor - and I have a paid business license. One computer has a situation where every few days when the user wakes her computer the TV dialog box pops up.

I checked the "Close to tray menu" option and the box is checked. But the situation recurs sporadically.

    Any other thoughts/options?
