How to "unjoin" a company?

I have a user that is joined to a company, and need to isolate my user (and buy a new license).
Is it possible to leave the company's membership and keep all my saved groups and computers?
It look as if the function is there ("Remove from organization" under User-administration), but I'm not sure of the consequense, if I click the button - I can't seem to find the documentation for this function.
Can anyone tell me if this is the way to do it, or what else to do?
