In TeamViewer, there is an option called "Permission Inheritance".

But it is set to no.

How can I activate it?

    Hello @bastiann,

Thank you for contacting us; we are thrilled to have you in our Tensor Community!

Permissions are not “inherited,” or at least not all permissions; you can inherit easy access or the permission to apply policies, but if you want to change the name of the device, you have to be the direct manager of the device, and that is not inherited.

So, if that is what you wish to do, please click on the link below, where you will find important information about it:

Please check the article and let us know if you have any further questions. We will be happy to continue assisting you.

This is not efficient at all or even logical. Inheritance should be exactly that, meaning permissions should percolate to the devices in the group. At the very least, there should be a 'refresh' option or a listed permission for rename. If I make someone a manager of a group, then I am explicitly choosing to do so. They should then be able to manage the group, meaning the devices IN the group.

As I understand this setup currently. Say I have a group with 50 devices in it and I want the manager of that group to be able to rename them if desired. I can't just give him permissions at the group level. I can't even go to the group, select all of the devices IN that group and then set the permissions. I have to go to the All Devices list, where they might be scattered thru a list of 500 devices, tag them, then set the permission.

    Am I wrong?

    Hi @bcatoe,

    Thank you for reaching out!

You can now apply the permissions at the group level instead of setting the permissions for each device.

Please find how to proceed here: Apply manager permissions at group level

@JeanK , well, that doesn't seem to work. We did those steps, the user still not inheriting device permission. And now when we click 'add managers' the message says "no assignable users'. So now we can't even add users to groups at all from inside the app but we just figured out we can from the website. This is very inconsistent.

@JeanK also, with the inheritance, easy access does not work. In the group the permissions are set, but on the device itself easy access is greyed out…

@bcatoe Thanks a lot for reporting this. I'm happy that you could solve the issue in the end. Regarding the inconsistency client/web app, I'll pass this over to the respective team so they can look at it.

@bastiann Let me ask the team and get back to you as soon as I have an update for you. 🙂

@bcatoe I just got the info that if you enabled the setting in the web app, you need to restart the client, so the setting gets applied. Does this explain why it wasn't working?

@bastiann I just synced with the dev team, and I can confirm that this is a current bug our team will fix soon.

Currently, even though the Easy access permission has been granted on group level, the Easy access permission is not recognized in the device dock.

This bug only affects the device dock; therefore, you can connect to the remote device via Easy access via the Devices menu of the client.

I'll update the thread once the fix is deployed.

Sorry for the not-so-good news and for your understanding.

    Have a great day!

Hi @JeanK, unfortunately the Easy Access in the device menu is also not working :(

This is the permission at group level:

And this on the device level (since the permissions are inherited):

As you can see, Easy Access is greyed out (but if I click on TeamViewer Password, I can connect to the device without a password?):

Another thing I noticed after enabling the Inherited Permissions and removing a single assigned user from the device is that the TeamViewer Host itself does not show as "managed by Company name" anymore. Instead, the following message is shown (even tough the device is correctly registered in our TeamViewer tenant). That is just a cosmetic error, but it irritates our users since they think they need to register something.

This is my TeamViewer Client version: 15.59.3

    Thanks!

    Hi @bastiann,

I just learned that it's not yet working if you activate Easy access on the group level for user groups. It will be fixed by the end of this month.

In the meantime, assigning the group to single users should work fine. Can you confirm on your side?
