Black Screen When Connecting via Desktop, but No Black Screen When Connecting via iPad

I'm having difficulties logging in to my remote PC using my desktop computer. It merely shows a black screen, and I couldn't see anything from the remote PC. The weird thing is that when I simultaneously connect to the same remote PC using my iPad, I can see everything clearly.

Now the PC is connected to a monitor that has a switcher to switch to another HDMI source. I've fiddled with that, but still not getting anything. It was fine previously without needing to switch the HDMI source back to the PC, so now I'm wondering - what am I doing wrong on my desktop setup?
