At TeamViewer, we are committed to providing you with the most secure and seamless remote access experience. One key step in achieving this is moving away from using personal passwords for your remote devices. Instead, we encourage you to manage your devices by assigning them to your account and connecting via unattended access (Easy Access). Here's why and how we're making this transition easier for you.

This announcement is only relevant for TeamViewer users connecting to Windows devices.

Weak personal password warnings and prompts

If you connect to a remote device that has a weak personal password set up, you will see a warning prompt popping up and a warning icon in the session toolbar, as below:

If you want to keep connecting via personal password, click Update password to open the advanced settings and update your password.

Our recommendation is to enhance the security of your remote connections by setting up unattended access (Easy Access) on your remote device, as we explain in the following section.

Click the Learn more button to understand the risks of fixed passwords and alternatives for secure unattended access.

Why switch to unattended access (Easy Access)?

Personal passwords, while convenient, can often be weak and susceptible to security breaches. A password can be compromised, leaving your remote devices vulnerable to unauthorized access. With unattended access (Easy Access), you can connect to your remote device with two clicks without entering any password. Furthermore, your remote device can only be accessed via your TeamViewer account, which you can protect with two-factor authentication (2FA). This makes it significantly safer, adding an extra layer of security beyond just a password.

How to make the switch?

Switching to unattended access is simple and can be done in a few steps.

In the Remote (new) interface

  1. On the remote device, open TeamViewer and sign in with your TeamViewer account.
  2. Go to Devices and find the respective bookmarked remote device.
  3. Delete the device by selecting the device and clicking Delete device.
  4. Return to Devices and click Add device.
  5. Click This device.
  6. Enter a name and confirm by clicking Add this device.
  7. Sign out from your TeamViewer account by clicking your profile icon on the top-right corner and clicking Sign out.

In the Classic interface

  1. On the remote device, open TeamViewer and sign in with your TeamViewer account.
  2. Go to Computers & Contacts and find the respective remote device.
  3. Delete the device with a right-click and click Delete.
  4. Go to the TeamViewer options (⚙).
  5. In the General tab, scroll down to the Manage this device section.
  6. Click Manage this device.
  7. Confirm by clicking OK.
  8. Sign out from your TeamViewer account by clicking your profile icon on the top-right corner and clicking Sign out.

You have successfully set up unattended access (and Easy Access) on your remote device!

Sign in with your TeamViewer account and connect to your remote device with just two clicks without entering a password, as described here.

Please ask your questions in the thread below if you have any!

All the best,
