free program?
I have been using the free, non-commercial version for several years. I now have a new computer. How do I get the program for my new computer?

Hi @Dave_85205,
Thank you for posting in the Community!
To set up TeamViewer on a new device, simply download TeamViewer on the new computer and sign in to your TeamViewer account. It will be up and running as it is on the current device.
If you experience any issues, feel free to post again with the error message!

Thank you. The program is installed.
But I have a couple of questions:
I have been using the free non-commercial TeamViewer for several years – on an average of only 3-4 times per year. It has been a great help.
A little bit of background:
I have never used it to initiate a connection. Typically, my brother, or one of my children would call me about a problem, and if would be solved best by me taking control of their computer, then we would both open TV. They would give me their password, and I would take over and fix or solve the issue. When done, we close the program. No session codes were ever involved. Simple and effective.
However, when I tried to open a session with my brother with this latest installation (on my new computer), I entered his ID, but the Connect button is grayed-out. I closed the program and tried again, with the same result. One time I got the message to enter a name, but there was no field to enter a name.
So, question #1 – What am I missing? What do I need to do to have a simple help connection?
Question #2 – In the past, when I was away from home, I could connect to my home computer from my laptop. I had made a permanent password, left my home computer on, and TV open. No problem. Worked like a charm.
In reading several of the FAQs, I’m confused. Do I need to install the Host version of the program on my laptop? How can I create a permanent password for my home computer?
I have looked at the new user interface, and switched back to the old, classic interface. I have no problem using the new interface – IF it will be as simple as the classic.
Again, I don’t need to do 90% of what your system is designed to do, or what your other clients need. I just want to simply help family members when needed, and also connect to my home computer when I’m away from home – which is very seldom.
Thanks, in advance for your help.

Hello @Dave_85205,
Welcome back to the Community, and Thank you for sharing your scenario with us!
Can you also share the TeamViewer modules and versions on your and your family's sides with us, please?
Usually, we recommend that the remote side install TeamViewer Host for receiving only incoming remote connections or TeamViewer Full for having both incoming and outgoing remote connections. After the TeamViewer installation, both TeamViewer modules are the remote site can set up Unattended Access. At the same time, you will need a valid TeamViewer account to add a trusted device.
You also mentioned the permanent password in the questions. Please check out our Blog on The risks of fixed passwords and alternatives for secure unattended access. We hope to deliver a safer and easier remote connection for you and all TeamViewer users.
I look forward to hearing from you with more TeamViewer information!

Thanks for your reply. I'll try to fix one problem at a time.
I installed the free license version 15.61.3 (64-bit) on my main home computer, which I use when my family needs help. Everything looks normal (my ID, a password, and my brother's ID), but the Connect button is grayed out. I called my brother to see if we could connect. When he opened his TV program, I got a little pop-up in the corner of my screen indicating he was active, but my Connect button is still gray.
At one point, I got a message that I needed to sign in, but I am signed in. At the top of the window, I see "Already have an account: Sign in—Dave Foley. " When I click on my profile icon, the choice is Sign Out, which means (to me) that I am signed in!
What do I need to do to be able to connect?

The second question:
When I clicked on the link (which you provided above) for unattended access, I got the following:
Step 1: Install TeamViewer Host
To connect to your remote device without confirmation, you must first install TeamViewer Host on your remote device.
So, do I need to install TV Host?
Also, the next sentence in that paragraph states that I need a TV account. If I'm signed in, doesn't that mean I have an account?

Hi @Dave_85205,
For Question 1, regarding the Connect button being greyed out, have you entered the remote ID correctly?
Would you mind sharing a screenshot of TeamViewer?
Since you received the notification of the contact (your brother) is active, that means that you have signed in the TeamViewer account and the contact has been added to your TeamViewer account successfully. Have you tried to remote connect via Contact? Please see the screenshot below for the steps.
For Question 2, same as my previous reply about the TeamViewer modules. If you only want the remote side to receive incoming connections, TeamViewer Host is the ideal choice. But TeamViewer Full can also work for unattended access at the same time.
Hope I answer your questions well and clear 😊

I switched to the new interface, sent an invite to him, but he is not at home right now. I'll have to wait until he responds.
Here's where I am at the moment.
You mentioned the "Full" version. I did not see it under products on your website. Is it a free version? How do I get it?

Hello again @Dave_85205,
Thank you for sharing the screenshots from your side!
We encourage all TeamViewer users to try the new user interface. I suggest trying again to make the connection when your contact is available later on.
The module you are using is the TeamViewer Full version. Hope you like it and feel free to share with us the thoughts on the new interface!

I was not able to connect with my brother with either interface.
I conducted an experiment. I used TV on my laptop to connect to my desktop computer using the classic interface. It worked perfectly!
I closed the connection and tried to connect my desktop to my laptop using the classic. No luck. I tried to connect with my brother. Still no luck.
I uninstalled TV, downloaded, and installed the program, and
The connect button is still greyed out!
I then went back to my laptop, opened TV — and it opened with the new interface — and I saw no way to switch back to Classic! The Classic has worked perfectly for years. Smooth, easy, fast, simple, and without session codes.
How can we install and use the classic? The new interface may be great for corporate IT departments, but not for simple users, like us.
Thanks for your patience for simple-minded me.

Hi @Dave_85205,
Thank you for trying and sharing the remote connections with TeamViewer!
What error message did you see when you used the new TeamViewer interface and could not make the remote connection?
There could be variable reasons why the contact is not online, the TeamViewer on the remote side is not ready, or there is an internet issue and more to guess. We do need more information from TeamViewer's new interface to identify the actual issue. Can you try the connection again and check the error message, please?
Best,
Ying

My nephew has been trying to help with our connections, and he sent me this:
Dave,
The only time it won't work is if you are not on the Internet, you are on a local VPN connection, or you are not logged in correctly. I know you say you are logged in, but if your account has not been validated, it won't work.
An easy fix is to register another email acct and try with that. I guess that when you setup your acct, you never acknowledged some validation email sent to you or code etc. That pending status may not prevent you from logging into the tool but it won't allow usage. Make sure any email from them is not in spam.
*********
I checked my spam, nothing there. Your thoughts?
I'll try to create a new account, but where do I go to do that?

Hello @Dave_85205,
For a new account sign up, you may do it on the website - login.teamviewer.com, or on the TeamViewer client as the screenshow showed below:
If you have a signed-an account, simply sign out first, and you will be able to find the option of Create one here.

I never found the screenshot you provided, but I somehow landed on the Management Console and was able to connect with my brother by clicking on the Web Client box and entering my brother's ID and password. It's not the classic interface, but it functions the same way. I just wonder what problems I'll encounter later.

Hi @Dave_85205,
I am happy to know that you were able to connect to your contact with the TeamViewer Management Console! If you would like to know more about TeamViewer Management Console, we have the full information available here - Management Console - General information.
As I mentioned in my previous post, it is hard to identify the actual issue without more information from the TeamViewer client. May I ask you to take a screenshot of the error message from TeamViewer and share it with us when you see it next time? We can help to double-check and also provide some possible troubleshooting suggestions.
Best,

Will do! Thanks.

I went through the whole process, took 19 screen captures, and explained what I was doing at each step. I put it all into a .pdf document which I will attempt to attach or upload.
Well, that didn't work.
I then exported the file to .jpg, and it created 12 images. Sorry for the clutter.

I don't know what happened, but it seems that everything is working properly.
The Classic interface opens as soon as I open TV on my desktop and laptop computers. However, I get the following screen:
When I clik on the X of the message, I get the normal screen.
My only question now is, am I on a 30-day free trial, or am I on the regular Free License as it states at the top of the next image?
I was also able to create a permanent password for my desktop computer, and when I opened TV on my laptop and entered the desktop ID, I was immediately connected.
Again, I don't know how all of this happened, but I'm glad it did!
Thanks, again for your help and patience.
