free program?

I have been using the free, non-commercial version for several years. I now have a new computer. How do I get the program for my new computer?

    Hi @Dave_85205,

Thank you for posting in the Community!

To set up TeamViewer on a new device, simply download TeamViewer on the new computer and sign in to your TeamViewer account. It will be up and running as it is on the current device.

If you experience any issues, feel free to post again with the error message!

Thank you.  The program is installed.

But I have a couple of questions:

I have been using the free non-commercial TeamViewer for several years – on an average of only 3-4 times per year.  It has been a great help.

    A little bit of background:

I have never used it to initiate a connection.  Typically, my brother, or one of my children would call me about a problem, and if would be solved best by me taking control of their computer, then we would both open TV.  They would give me their password, and I would take over and fix or solve the issue.  When done, we close the program.  No session codes were ever involved.   Simple and effective.

However, when I tried to open a session with my brother with this latest installation (on my new computer), I entered his ID, but the Connect button is grayed-out.  I closed the program and tried again, with the same result.  One time I got the message to enter a name, but there was no field to enter a name.

So, question #1 – What am I missing?  What do I need to do to have a simple help connection?

Question #2 – In the past, when I was away from home, I could connect to my home computer from my laptop.  I had made a permanent password, left my home computer on, and TV open.  No problem.  Worked like a charm.

In reading several of the FAQs, I’m confused.  Do I need to install the Host version of the program on my laptop?  How can I create a permanent password for my home computer?

I have looked at the new user interface, and switched back to the old, classic interface.  I have no problem using the new interface – IF it will be as simple as the classic.

Again, I don’t need to do 90% of what your system is designed to do, or what your other clients need.  I just want to simply help family members when needed, and also connect to my home computer when I’m away from home – which is very seldom.

Thanks, in advance for your help.

    Dave

    Hello @Dave_85205,

Welcome back to the Community, and Thank you for sharing your scenario with us!

Can you also share the TeamViewer modules and versions on your and your family's sides with us, please?

Usually, we recommend that the remote side install TeamViewer Host for receiving only incoming remote connections or TeamViewer Full for having both incoming and outgoing remote connections. After the TeamViewer installation, both TeamViewer modules are the remote site can set up Unattended Access. At the same time, you will need a valid TeamViewer account to add a trusted device.

You also mentioned the permanent password in the questions. Please check out our Blog on The risks of fixed passwords and alternatives for secure unattended access. We hope to deliver a safer and easier remote connection for you and all TeamViewer users.

I look forward to hearing from you with more TeamViewer information!

Thanks for your reply. I'll try to fix one problem at a time.

I installed the free license version 15.61.3 (64-bit) on my main home computer, which I use when my family needs help. Everything looks normal (my ID, a password, and my brother's ID), but the Connect button is grayed out. I called my brother to see if we could connect. When he opened his TV program, I got a little pop-up in the corner of my screen indicating he was active, but my Connect button is still gray.

At one point, I got a message that I needed to sign in, but I am signed in. At the top of the window, I see "Already have an account: Sign in—Dave Foley. " When I click on my profile icon, the choice is Sign Out, which means (to me) that I am signed in!

What do I need to do to be able to connect?

    The second question:

When I clicked on the link (which you provided above) for unattended access, I got the following:

    Step 1: Install TeamViewer Host

To connect to your remote device without confirmation, you must first install TeamViewer Host on your remote device.

So, do I need to install TV Host?

Also, the next sentence in that paragraph states that I need a TV account. If I'm signed in, doesn't that mean I have an account?
