Hi all,
We would like to announce that as of 29 April 2025, TeamViewer will no longer actively service Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2012 R2 operating systems.
The main driver for this has been the announcement by boost.org (boost libraries for C++) that support for older Windows versions is deprecated and has been removed in their Boost 1.87 version. These libraries are important to TeamViewer as they provide utility functionality like file transfer.
Stopping active servicing means that no new features will be deployed for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2012 R2 operating systems. TeamViewer versions newer than (and including) version 15.65 will not be compatible with these operating systems. There will be no upgrade path available to the next version.
What does this mean if you are running Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 as an operating system?
- Update to a newer Windows version: This is the recommended approach. By updating to a newer version of Windows, you can continue using the latest TeamViewer versions. Updating your operating system can also provide better security, more features, and continued support from Microsoft and other software vendors.
- Continue using an older TeamViewer version: If you choose not to update your operating system or cannot, you can still use TeamViewer but only up to version 15.64, the last version supporting the older Windows OS versions. However, these older operating systems no longer receive security updates from Microsoft, which makes them vulnerable to security risks. Operating only current operating systems and software versions is strongly recommended to ensure security and functionality.
We strongly recommend only running current operating systems and software versions. Therefore, please make sure to update to the most recent version of Windows and TeamViewer.
