Black Screen after connection is established on MAC?

I am currently using a MAC on both ends of the connect - mac desktop as the main and a mac laptop that I am trying to remote connect from.

I was using teamviewer 12 with no issues at all - I recently got a notification that the version 12 is no longer able to be used. 

I updated to team viewer 13 and when I connect to the main computer I recieve a black screen from the other end.

I can't update to team viewer 14 because both computers are running a slightly older version of max osx.
