Identical installs on two VM machines on same server: One works, the other gives black screen

I'm having a curious issue with two VM machines on the same VMware server.  Both of them have the latest verison of Teamviewer installed.  Both of them are configured identically.  One I can connect to with no problem..  The other one always gives me a black screen and the "Black screen is not currently active" message.  I've tried everything suggested in the troubleshooting article at https://community.teamviewer.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/Why-do-I-only-see-a-black-screen-after-connection...

The only difference between the two VM's is that the one that works is running server 2012 and the one that doesn't is running Server 2012 R2.  Is this an incompatability problem?
