Starting TeamViewer

Whenever I open TeamViewer I get the following message:
"Another instance of TeamViewer is already running. Please close this instance before restarting TeamViewer."
No matter what I do, I cannot get rid of this message, even shutting down the computer, closing TeamViewer, Unplugging the computer. What gives?
