os x file transfer error

i am normally able to transfer files as expected. lately, i get the below message instead:

"the item you wanted to share is a directory or network path. you can only share local files within a meeting"

this occurred after not being able to use the service at all for a while, having a black screen show up. i was able to have someone wake the computer and then the black screen went away. i also had them restart the computer. any ideas what i'm mising?

os x10.11 on the computer i'm trying to access, 10.13 on the one i'm using to access it, teamviewer 13.2.5321
