remote control of Amazon instance

I am trying to use teamviweer to access an Amazon EC2 instance to allow a seperate path for diagnosing a problem. When the instance is also accessed by RDP, Teamviewer can access it but as soon as the RDP session ends, the team viewer session is also locked out. The instance is still running.

The instance has Teamviewer installed in a "allow unattended remote control" mode.

Is there a way to use Teamviewer to access the instance even when there is no RDP session active?
