Teamviewer prevents connection to TomTom

I use a TomTom Go 610 device on my MS Surface laptop. I have had to update the power settings for the Surface for Connected Standby and USB Selective suspend. The details for this can be found here,

However, when I install Teamviewer I get the same symptoms. The TomTom  device will not connect reliably. It disconnects frequently.
To solve the problem I uninstall Teamviewer, run the TomTom updates and then re-install Teamviewer.
Can anyone suggest a better solution?
