Connection to remote computer allows 'old' password regardless of the settings
Hi,
I am using Teamviewer 15.18.4 on two Linux machines (Ubuntu).
When I connect to the remote computer connection is always permitted with a certain, 'older' password. No matter of my settings in -> Options -> General OR -> Options -> Advanced.
i.e. if I set "Generate new", then the new password is rejected. After the first login attempt the password will jump to the 'old' password and display this in the main window. I can also login directly with this password.
i.e. if I set "Personal Password", then the personal password and the 'old' password will both work.
This seems off. I have tried many ways incl. reinstallation of Teamviewer.
What can I do to stop this behaviour?
Kind regards,

Hi,
now again with Vers. = "15.19.3 " Teamviewer accepts an old password permanently, although the setting demand otherwise.
Deleting the global.conf does not change anything. This time global.conf has no such as entry as "[bin ] PermanentPassword =".
This is very disturbing. What can be the cause?
Kind regards,

Hello @BAGAA , could it be, that easy access was activated for the incoming connection? This would explain why you were able to connect. Do you get the password prompt when connecting to that device?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hi Benjamin,
Thank you for your reply.
No, easy access has never been activated.
When Teamviewer starts on the client, the main window shows a newly generated password.
At the moment I try to connect to the client with this newly generated password, the connection will be refused.
After such an attempt the main window will show again this specific, "permanent" password.
If I use this password upfront, connection to the client is always allowed.
Kind regards,

thank you for your reply.
This is quite strange, to be honest. I don't know of any scenario where the permanent password would be shown on the "remote control" main window.
I just tried to reproduce this but there's either the random password shown or a "-" if the setting for password strength is set to "deactivated (no random password)". The permanent password will never be shown there.
Could you maybe provide some screenshots that show the permanent password in the random password field? (make sure to not show your actual password there but something that's most likely not random like i.E. T_k158%?! or something)
Thank you in advance,
Best regards
Benjamin

Hi Benjamin,
thank you very much for your reply.
I sent the log files. I also like to share a short Desktop Video showing how the pwd switches back to always the same pwd, once I try to connect with the client.
To where can I send this short clip, if not to the community forum here?
Kind regards,

Hello,
As I am having exactly the same problem on both Ubuntu and Debian, I wonder if any progress was eventually made on this subject. It is possible for me to log using an older password, which was successfully used in the past to log in, even after a new password has been generated a few times. Similarly, as the OP noted, easy access has never been activated on any machine.
