turn off IPv6

Back in June, I had trouble remotely accessing the office computer when I was on vacation.
When I returned, it was suggested I need to "turn off IPv6".
Reading the verbiage on the site where it tells how to do that, it says "your router may be inadvertently closing the connection"...
Is that the router at the office or where I'm staying?
