2 Questions: 2FA Method; Accessing from VPN

Hi,

First question: How does TeamViewer send messages to the mobile app for 2FA? I assume it uses data (not cellular) so it doesn't make a difference what phone number is associated with your phone as long as the phone (and the TeamViewer app on the phone) has internet access. Is this correct? I will be traveling and want to make sure that I will have access with a different phone.

Second question: I would like to set "Incoming LAN connections" to "accept exclusively" and then only people on the local network will have access, I assume. My plan is to VPN into my local network and then connect. However, this isn't working. Maybe TeamViewer is already running through its own VPN and I shouldn't worry? Suggestions?
