Changing password via commandline

I'm having an issue with changing the teamviewer password through command line. I have ~50 devices that I had to change the password for, they are more or less identical and run ubuntu 18. I did the password change through my program that I run on the devices using the command "sudo teamviewer passwd newpass" and this worked fine for most of my devices, however a select few of them got "bricked" that is, the new password doesn't work but the old password doesn't either. Luckily I have an SSH connection to them so I'm able to access their terminal and when I do
sudo teamviewer passwd mynewtestpassword123
I get: passwort invalid - validation failed [E14]
What is going on, how can I fix this?
