Why doesn't teamviewer minimize when closed anymore?

it used to shrink itself to the Overflow area on the task bar when closed, and tell me that it was still running in the BG now it just outright closes itself. I could not find the option to make it do this again in the options menu, though i did disable the new interface thinking that was the issue.

You also need to have TeamViewer set up for unattended access.
If the software is not set to start with Windows, then it will just exit rather than minimising.
