slave version

So, my dad needs me to help him remotely and last time it said our version was out of date and we could not use it anymore.  So I am visiting him now and noticed that we had to update our free versions, both for windows, so I did.  I am pretty sure his version was only a slave version and it looks like the update is not just the slave version, which is what I want for him as he is 95 and gets easily confused, so the simpler the better.  Is there still a slave only version or some simpler way to set up his version?  Thanks so much,  Dean
