Hello i have been a private user for years.
Recently i logged into my PC's at home from my girlfriends house (she lives in another city and has a different ISP than i have obviously: she has KPN as ISP, me i have Delta as ISP) and now my connection time out comes after a few seconds. For some reason i cannot stay connected anymore. Plz help or unflag my account in case it has been flagged for commercial use, because i don't use teamviewer commercially. I have been using Teamviewer for years, exclusively private. If you have any further questions or remarks for me plz let me know.
In Topicstart it is said: go directly to this page (https://www.teamviewer.com/reset) and request your reset. Too bad the link doesn't work...
Plz Help & kind regards

Hi Esther,
I have a personal account for many years to support my family as I'm in Spain and they are in Portugal.
Today I've tried to connect to one tof the PC's and after 1/2 minutes it closed the connection saying that the limit was exceeded.
What can I do with this?
Thanks in advanced.

Two things:
First: in your form, you require Zip/Postcode to contains only numbers. This is not correct for the UK, where Postcode contains both letters and numbers.
Second: I'm on a trip abroad. At the moment, I have no other way to connect to the internet rather than via host wi-fi because the hotel network is always overused. I'm trying to connect to my personal machine at home, and it seems to be marked as commercial usage. This is not a home office, and it is my personal laptop. I'm just sitting here for a couple of days. I truly believe that your sixth point is insane. You should check the connectivity patterns rather than IPs. As if I'm always connecting the same two machines, occasional connections from some commercial wi-fi networks do not make my usage commercial.

Guys, I've checked your "lite" version (https://www.teamviewer.com/en/lo-remote-access/). What if I need TV only for a month? Or only for a couple of weeks? Billing yearly is too greedy.

Hi Esther,
I have been a user of TeamViewer for a fairly long time and since the last two few weeks, I got my sessions prematurely end/time out without any warning (not even a "commercial use suspected" message). I found out about such message only from the android app, until then I didn't know what was happening (not to mention that the 5-minute time limit was not even observed) and I was kicked out of the session prematurely.
Anyways, I'm a PhD student and I'm using TeamViewer for doing my PhD researches from home (in fact, the whole duration of my doctoral studies will be carried out from home). From there I access another PC located in the next room in the house that I use to access an online data analysis platform as well as transfer files between the two computers from said platform (one PC must stay turned on in order to download the files from the platform when they're finished). This data will be included in future publications with no commercial intentions in mind. Is this considered commercial or private use?

May I suggest that you read the comments being made by the users.

I have read them, but my case is somewhere in a grey area (I think) - that's why I'm asking. On one side, as a PhD student, I receive a scholarship. On the other, the information I'm using for my dissertation will be published but with no commercial intentions in mind. Then again, in order to use the platform for the data, I use TeamViewer to connect 2 PCs in my home (as in, I use them to work on the data that'll be used in my dissertation) which might denote commercial use, but since it's from home, then it should be private use - hence why I'm unsure. That is why I'm asking.

Hi @mojoe - I recommend asking your University to use their license or to buy you a license for your studies (Universities also need licenses and TeamViewer offers discounts for educational institutions). I think the Remote Access plan might be enough for your connections. Thanks, Esther

I have been using TeamViewer for years for connecting to my home PC to do or access something that I don’t have with me. Apparently, according to TeamViewer, this is commercial usage because I was connected through my company’s WiFi. Personal device connecting to personal device for personal usage.
I don’t know what world you live in that that is considered commercial activity but I am done with TeamViewer and done recommending TeamViewer to family and friends.
Goodbye, TeamViewer (not that you actually care)

Hello, Community Manager Esther
I am a Chinese user. I started using teamviewer in 2013. This is the best remote control software I have ever used. But now I have a problem. I use it for personal use. In most cases, I use remote control to help and Instruct friends to use the computer skills. I occasionally remotely control my LAN host, which is used to store and remotely watch movies.
Now I find that every time I reinstall windows, the device ID will become a new ID. Now my teamviewer account has exceeded the number of free devices after resetting my windows10 system and cannot be used again.
I want to know how to keep my device ID? Because of the stability and compatibility of WIN10, I often reinstall the windows system, but my device has never been changed.
I can ascertain and guarantee that I am solely for personal use.And I only use the remote control function .

I love Teamviewer for years.
In the past i used the build in version of Help on Distance in Windows Xp but that was not always reliable. Then I used VNC but it was for me at that time too complicated.
I like the easiness of TeamViewer with drag and drop files, copy and paste with url's. The connection to a friend in pc problem need is mostly stable.
But when I try nowadays to help my few (elderly) friends to keep their pc updated & protected ( i do this every month few times) i get timed out / disconnected within a minute.
I did send an PDF file in hope that the restriction will be removed.
Recently I could not help 3 friends with pc problems and had to be creative and downloaded [Third party product]. But I feel very restricted with [Third party product]. No easy drag & drop files, or copy url's from my pc internet search to their pc.
All I want is continue using TeamViewer for private usage. My friends are above 65 years old and explain them that they have to download [Third party product] because TeamViewer is not working correctly is difficult for them to understand. My friends are used to TeamViewer.

Hi
I use TeamViewer with my Dad since we are in different states and he is elderly.
We have use it for several months. This past week it times us out, why?

HI @RAMFMC333
Most likely because your usage pattern indicates a commercial usage of TeamViewer. If this is not correct, please feel free to fill out the form: https://www.teamviewer.com/reset/

Hello Esther, it looks like there is an issue with TEAM VIEWER software . I was able to install TEAM VIEWER app from the Microsoft store and could connect and stay connected to a partner ID. It's unfortunate that we are given the runaround with this reset fix that doesn't work. Why can't you be upfront and admit you have an issue and are hopefully working on it.

From home, using a private PC to access another private PC sounds okay. Submit the form.
(Note, Win10 Pro allows remote access, and it's fairly trivial should T.V. disagree with my non-official understanding of your use case)

Just figured I'd leave my 2c worth.
I started getting timed out. I went to 'fill out the form'.
You have to fill in the fields, then hit a button to generate a PDF.
(Why can't you just submit the form?)
Then you have to print the PDF
(What's a printer? I think I remember seeing those a long time ago)
The PDF layout is mostly blank page with a narrow but long column of information, that uses the page so inefficiently that it is two pages. Okay print two pages.
Then you have to date it and sign it
(How does anyone know I didn't get my dog to sign for me? What is the point, really?)
(And my computer knows the date. The date could be in the submit action. No, okay I can write the date for you)
Then you have to scan it.
(Okay, find the scanner program, scan to JPG files, one for each page)
Then upload and submit
But, it only accepts PDF. So you must 'print' those scanned JPGs to a single PDF, then you can upload that, and submit it.
I am bewildered. I thought TeamViewer was a really clever advanced company with a great product. But from the above I am wondering if maybe an alien spaceship hovered over the TeamViewer office and sent brain-mush rays into the building.
Sigh ... I hope I get my TeamViewer back. Worked great for me for years until this timeout problem showed up.

Windows HOME Server is not commercial use but it seems TeamViewer now considers this as such?

I have been using TV to access my 91-year-old mother's computer to help her for a number of years and now I am getting the connection blocked error. And her only computer is the one I connect to remotely. So now I am told to submit a form to get my TV ID reset. Well, I try and do that, fill out the form, and when I go to the "generate PDF" step nothing happens and I cannot proceed further. This is getting very frustrating. What gives???

Hi there, could anybody help please? I had a message on my backup laptop yesterday, when I helped my father with his pc remotely per teamviewer, that the session wil be closed in 5min, because of suspected commercial use. Ok, I am not using it commercial, so I asked for a reset today morning. But, I did it from my another pc ( I have two laptops ) with another ID - there was no problm with it. I thought it has something to do with my account and not with the ID of computer. That was a mistake. Now I can´t make another request of reset to non commercial use from the "problematic" PC, because I did it from the other one wit different ID and when I log in with my name and password, there is only the option to wait, because the request was allready sent. **bleep**.... What now? Any idea? :-) Thanks a lot , Milan

Hi Milan,
after the first reset request has been resolved, you can submit a new one with the correct IDs.
After you received the email from TeamViewer you can submit it again. If you don´t get a reset within approx. 48 hours, I recommend trying it anyway.
Thanks,
Esther

Ok so you don't confuse people, there is no need for a printer or a scanner. The pdf gets downloaded to your download folder, then you attack file in next step. I agree it is somewhat silly to have to upload a file that you just downloaded. When I did this I received a confirmation email stating account had been reset. It did not resolve the connection issue. I installed the app form Microsoft store and it worked. I retried the normal program this morning after 4 days of not working and it seems to be working correctly again.

IN SHORT:
Teamviewer AG was acquired by British hedge fund Permira in 2014.
That is when the company started its increasingly hard-nose path over licensing, which has only accelerated the last couple of years, along with the company abolishing perpetual licenses for business and forcing a "subscription-only" license on all commercial users.
In fact, TeamViewer apparently doesn't like for people to know such ownership/buyout facts, as they have been scrubbed from the English-language Wikipedia article sometime in the last 6 months. (I only did a quick check of the history, I could spend a few minutes more and determine the actual day this occurred)
Perhaps the next step is reporting all the "free" users to the police authorities.

Esther, are we getting into another period of idiocy? We put up with a long period of false accusations of commercial use, until TV management got it head back on straight. Now it has begun again. You responded earlier: "Most likely because your usage pattern indicates a commercial usage of TeamViewer." The correct statement would be 'Most likely because TeamViewer interprets your usage pattern as commercial usage.' The fault lies with TeamViewer, not with the free user who has NOT changed his usage pattern.
