does TeamViewer ever call its customers about updating their software?

Our customer support only pro-actively contacts a customer if the customer submitted a ticket or reached out to us via phone.
If you didn't submit any ticket and you have someone at the phone requesting you updating your software/hardware (or doing any actions on your device), then it might be a scam attempt.
We highly recommend users to only trust people they know and not follow instructions of unknown callers. You will find more information here: TeamViewer and scamming
