Error 500 when trying to save a device description
If I edit a device description, for some devices they save ok, for other devices the save fails with this error:
Failed to update the device due to an error: Request failed with status code 500
Why only some devices? For most of the devices I'm editing, I have only just given myself Description Administration permission. Adding the permission always enables typing in the Description field, but doesn't always let me save what I type.

Having the same issues. I have all permissions on a device; the description textbox is editable but when I try to save it I receive an error 500 message. Very annoying.

Does it happen for all of them, or just some of them? Just some of them for us. I can't see any pattern to it.

anyone find a resolution to this?

Yes. Sorry, I'd forgotten I'd posted this question, and then months later I opened a support ticket for it and got the answer privately.
They said that the description permission is on the device itself (how I don't know). If you add permission to edit the description field, it doesn't take effect until the machine has been online to accept it. I don't understand it, but it works. I tend to get this error for machines that have been put in storage. If I turn them on and let them connect to the web, it then lets me save the description changes.0
