iPad changes remote computer screen size

When remotely connecting to a computer from the iPad the screen size is changed on the remote computer(s).  The iPhone does not cause this problem.  Is there a setting in the iPad iOS  that will prevent this from happening?  I only have this problem with the iPad.   I have seen other posts on the internet that report the same problem but none have a response.
