Big amount of data usage

Hello,

I installed quicksupport for android last week, and the use of the data has litteraly exploded.

The app used 4.3 Go in 3 hours of use max. I didn't find any parameter to switch off to avoid quicksupport to use all this datas.

Is there anything I can do? Because my phone plan won't stand it long.

Thank you

Re: Big amount of data usage

Hi @BibiCmoi

Thank you for your reply and screen shot.

Do you mean that you were playing the game through the TeamViewer connection, from your computer? If so, then such high data usage would not surprise me.

TeamViewer needs to transfer the image of the remote device (your phone) over the connection to the local computer that you’re connecting from. Every time the “image” (the phone’s display) changes – eg. when you swipe the screen, open an app, or do anything else that makes the screen change in any way – then the screen image has to be sent over the connection to your phone. You could think of it as being like streaming a movie from Netflix, where the phone’s screen is the movie, and each frame of the screen is transmitted over the connection to your computer – multiple times per second.

If the phone’s screen isn’t changing much (eg. you’re not doing anything on the screen), then not much data needs to be transferred. But if the phone’s screen is changing a lot – which would be the case when you’re watching a movie on the phone, or playing a game., where every single pixel on the phone is changing colours multiple times per second – all of that data, for every single pixel, needs to be transferred by TeamViewer to your computer so that you can see it.

That quickly adds up to a large amount of data if the image on your phone is changing multiple times per second, as it does in a game. This is especially the case when you have a phone with a high-resolution screen. Your screenshot suggests that your phone’s resolution is 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) which amounts to a lot of pixels.

If you streamed a Full HD movie from Netflix over the internet for 3-4 hours, it would easily use up 3-4 GB of data or more. So it would not surprise me for TeamViewer to use a similar amount of data in this scenario.

For that reason we would recommend sticking to WiFi for such things as playing games or watching videos over TeamViewer, if you have limits on the amount of mobile data you can use on your phone.

Re: Big amount of data usage

Hi @BibiCmoi

Thank you for your post and patience.

Could you please give us more details about how you were using the QuickSupport app during that time? Were you transferring any files to or from it? If so, how big were the files?

Or were you watching video content over the connection, or using Skype, or something similar?

Where exactly does it show you that it has used so much data? Could you please send us a screenshot of this?

Thank you in advance. :smileyhappy:

Re: Big amount of data usage

Hello,

Thank you for your answer.

So, I used the application 3 or 4 days before I realized the problem. I didn't transfer any files during my use.

I just played a game, Marvel Contest of Champions, which is a big game, but never reached more than 1Gb in one month, except when I do the updates.

I saw this in the parameters of my phone. I send you a pic.

Re: Big amount of data usage

Hello,

Thank you for your answer.

I thought that since the game didn't use a lot of data when I play with my phone, it would be the same with teamviewer.

I understand now I didn't have the proper use of the application.

Thank you very much
