Why is teamviewer service sending so much data

I am working over teamviewer(on a macbook) on a remote desktop. I notice that in my network monitor the process Teamviewer_Service (running under root) has sent 923 MB vs receiving only 123 MB. I would not expect this since the screen traffic is presumably incoming. If anything I would expect the traffic the other way around. Can anyone shed some technical light on this? For security reasons I just like to know why, when processes are sending lots of data out to the cloud.
