This is indeed not satisfying...
The best way to prevent such things from happening is to make sure both sides are running the latest version of TeamViewer.

This is a seriously-needed feature. TeamViewer frequently becomes unstable and unusable, without reason, requiring me to go to the remote computer and restart things.

It is only possible to restart the computer if you can access it (via TeamViewer).
