Trying to connect to a friend's computer

I am trying to connect to a friend's computer using Teamviewer. I get an error message that his version of Teamviewer is not compatible with mine and needs to be updated. When he tries to update his version of Teamviewer we get another error message that it will not allow him to update. Is the problem maybe he is using an older version of Windows.

In order to use the free version of TeamViewer, please ensure both devices have the latest version of TeamViewer.

Both devices should have version 15.19.5 installed.

If the device is running an older version of WIndows not compatible with the latest version of TeamViewer, it would not be possible to make a connection to this device using the free version.
