Connected to my brother's Samsung A12 successfully but no remote control

Trying to help my elderly brother use his new samsung a12 phone by setting up his google account. I can connect successfully to his phone using TVr but all I see in the remote area is a tablet size screen instead of a phone and a button in the centre of the screen with the text "Remote control"
When I click on it nothing happens (Well it kind of flickers white for a fraction of a second but goes back to the blue screen). Yet is says in the message area on the left;
"The connection has been established successfully."
How can I get around this problem please. Any help much appreciated.
