I keep getting knocked off my sessions of remote assistance

I am assisting a 91 year old relative who is on a relatively new Samsung tablet. I am able to connect to him using Teamviewer and Quick Assist to control his tablet (install apps, show him how things work), but frequently I find that part way through a session I am not able suddenly to do anything as I have been frozen out of his tablet. I have to quit the app, get him to tap Quick Assist again and try again. Today, in trying to help him log into his Amazon account, I had to give up after 5 attempts.
Is there an obvious reason for this? Am I doing something wrong?
Any help will be appreciated. An old man who easily forgets how to do things is not the easiest to assist.
