WoL with a public domain

Hallo!

I have set up WoL correctly, I could turn on my PC from my laptop perfectly using the same network. Therefore all my PC system is correctly set up for Wake over Lan

Now I want to turn on my computer from outside my network using TeamViewer. I set up TeamViewer according with all the tutorials to accept Wake on Lan from Public Address

I did create a public address using my.noip.com, and I added this public address to the settings inside TeamViewer's settings.

TeamViewer works great in both computers, but when controlled computer is off, I locate it inside my Host app in my laptop under "offline", and when I press the button "Wake up", it does nothing.

How can I fix this?? ...It's already a couple of days trying a lot of stuff

Thanks a lot in advance!

David

  • For me all this is so confusing. Maybe a clear answer on this: Can I use this feature (WoL on public network) without Port Forwarding configuration in my router?

    My router doesn't allow it.

I thought that having a public address domain that maps my dynamic dns was enough.

    Can anyone answer me?

    Thanks

  • Okay... I give up

    Hi @Rostropovich ,

Thanks for reaching out to our Community for help!

Please note that according to the announcement, TeamViewer Remote’s Free Version Redesign Wake-On-LAN (WOL) functionality requires a license.

WOL via public IP needs port forwarding because otherwise the UDP packets that contain the wakeup command would not be sent to the broadcast IP of your network through the WOL ports. If the router doesn't allow broadcast IPs the customer would need a static DHCP.

For more details, check our manual: 📄TeamViewer Manual Wake-on-Lan (chapter check out 7.1.1 and 7.1.2)

Let us know how it goes and if you need any further help. 🙋‍♀️

  • Ah! Ok, thanks a lot for the reply.

Then I have another question, with the free version, can I connect to my computer without time restrictions and also transfer files without size restrictions?

I will go away for some days and I really need to guarantee nothing will break my connection in those days

    Thanks a lot !

    Hi @Rostropovich ,

It's my pleasure to help! 😄

Regarding the time limit, please rest assured that TeamViewer is free for personal use. If any of your IDs get incorrectly flagged as commercial use, please check the discussion below to solve the issue:

📄 Commercial use - Connection time out

About the file transfer, please note that according to our announcement TeamViewer Remote’s Free Version Redesign, it's possible to transfer just one file at a time.

    I hope this helps! 🍀
