TeamViewer on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS

Question

When can users expect support for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS? Notably, this release of Ubuntu drops X11/Xorg support, which TeamViewer requires for full functionality. What are the plans moving forward, as this display technology has been completely removed from Ubuntu?

To be transparent: at this time, we can't share a date for when Ubuntu 26.04 LTS will be officially supported, nor can we guarantee if or when full support will be implemented. But our Community team is committed to keeping users informed about relevant changes and updates as they become available.

For cases like yours, the best way to stay informed is to follow our changelogs, announcements, and the mentioned blog post, as any progress or changes will be reflected there first:

Updates to supported OS are also made on the relevant Knowledge Base page when they become official. Thus, we also recommend checking this page regularly.

If you feel that clearer communication around upcoming Linux support and releases would be important, we'd encourage you to share that directly in our Product ideas. That's the channel for feature requests to be reviewed by our product teams:

So as you quoted from the KB article @SophE, "TeamViewer (Classic) can run on additional Linux distributions, even if they are not officially supported." This was the crux of my original question, which has yet to be answered in this exchange, so I'll restate it here for clarity:

Will TeamViewer (Classic or otherwise) successfully run on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, regardless of official support status or not, regardless of full functionality or not? If it does not run, when can we expect it to?

And to quote your last reply, the answer to this question is "we can't share additional details beyond what's published there" [meaning the KB article], which effectively means 🤷‍♀️.

As a paying customer who is transitioning more and more workloads from Windows to Linux, your response (or rather lack thereof) is frustrating and not at all reassuring.

The Knowledge Base page you're referring to lists the operating systems that are officially supported by TeamViewer. As also noted on that page, TeamViewer (Classic) can run on additional Linux distributions, even if they are not officially supported.

Regarding Wayland and Linux support more generally: all current information on the status, limitations, and how support is evolving is available in this Community blog post.

While we can't share additional details beyond what's published there, we take input like yours seriously and forward it internally.
