My "Wake-up" command no longer works. (Free version) Is it something I did?
I now have to physically turn on my desktop computer.
What alternative did you find? Some other I found also only have this option for paid users.
That is an appalling example of the contempt with which TeamViewer decision makers view both their users and the front-line staff who have to deal with contributors to this forum, who were clearly kept in ignorance of the changes made to the functionality of the product. Caveat emptor. TeamViewer, you have successfully driven me away from being a promoter of your product; I will now permanently stop using your product and adopt the alternative that you drove me to find.
Very sad, but at least it is now clear what the issue is mentioned - although the error in the TeamViewer Client is not helpful that a not sufficient license was the root cause. Maybe that could be improved, e.g. by blocking the setup of the wake on LAN settings when not having a sufficient license. Then it is more clear that it won't work.
Moreover I think the note "This article applies to Remote Access, Business, Premium, Corporate and Tensor customers." in the Knowledge Base article can be easily overseen and I think it is not 100 % clear that the Wake-on-LAN feature is not available in the free license. @JeanK Maybe could you add a similar statement like in the forum "The Wake-On-LAN (WOL) functionality is not available to free users".
Additionally, I would appreciate if there would be a table overview which feature is contained in the free license and which not so it can be compared to the different paid licenses: https://service.teamviewer.com/en-de/overview
Dear Users,
I am writing to address an important matter concerning the Wake-on-LAN feature, and I apologize for any inconvenience and confusion caused.
Since the 26th of April 2023, the Wake-on-LAN feature is available for licensed users only.
We deeply regret that the abrupt unavailability of this functionality led many of you to believe it was a technical issue. We genuinely apologize for any inconvenience, frustration, or disappointment this has caused.
We have updated the respective Knowledge Base article and our free version announcement, explicitly mentioning the new restriction.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
Sincerely,
/JeanK

@JeanK I think one important detail is if the "Wake Up Call" is started via the new TeamViewer UI or the old one. I think most still use the old UI for doing that which should still work, or?
Yes, of course.
Hello @JeanK,
I'm in the same situation as @ComPage:
Both computers are running TV 15.43.9 (64-bit) and are in the same network, but I can't wake up one with the other!
@ComPage Thank you so much for all the details.
Our dev team said they need the log files from the local and the remote device to investigate this further.
If you agree, may I contact you via private message to discuss the next steps?
@Kruk @jf2jor don't worry - I will share all the outcomes after the investigation.
@JeanK One other point that I neglected to mention earlier, these computers are all on the same Ethernet (wired) network.
@JeanK To answer your question, yes, the target computer is assigned to my account and has been on it for years.
When they were all on 15.39.6 any of the four computer in the group were able to wake any of the others. Now, those on later versions cannot wake any others but those still on 15.39.6 can still wake all of them.
Logically, it is clear that the problem lies with the initiating device, not the target.
I'm in the same boat.
Just to answer your question both computers are assigned to my account. Both computers have V15.43.9 and this version still does not wake up the other computer.
Installing 15.39.6 again on the test computer (1) allows to wake up the target computer.
Exactly as described by ComPage.
Still some work needs to be done by the dev guys.
@ComPage Thank you for the details.
Last question, which is super important to clarify - is the computer you are trying to wake up assigned to your account, or did you simply add it to your Computers & Contacts list manually with the ID and password?
The device used for testing is running native client 15.43.9 and looks like this when the target device (Valeria) is offline. As you can see, the wake up button is shown:
When the wake up button is used, this is the result:
The target device (Valeria) is running 15.39.6 and looks like this when it is online:
When both devices were running 15.39.6, either device could wake the other. Later versions will not wake any device.
Note that both devices can be woken using a third party application.
Hi, JeanK
@jf2jor as far as I can understand, you are trying to wake up from a native client, correct?
->That's right.
@ComPage, in the meantime, could you let us know about the following questions:
@jf2jor as far as I can understand, you are trying to wake up from a native client, correct?
Thanks in advance for your help!
If you could share a demo of your test methods, this would be fantastic and great help for our dev team. 🤩
Thanks in advance, @ComPage!
Hi @JeanK ,
The problem must lie with the initiating computer because, at the point where wake is initiated, TeamViewer is not running on the target computer.
I am testing with one computer running the latest version while keeping the others on 15.39.6 as controls. If it will help, I am happy to provide a demonstration of my test methods or carry out other tests.
Thanks @jf2jor - could you explain the behavior of the issue?
Are you seeing the wake-up button? If yes, what happens if you click on it? Just nothing? Or do you have an error message popping up?
WoL fails on two PCs (Windows11 and Windows10) with v15.43.8.
Hi @ComPage,
I'm afraid the remote computers on 15.39.6 must be updated, too.
Could you please test it with one device to confirm?
@JeanK Sorry to bother you again but I have just installed v15.43.8 (legacy version) and it still will not wake computers that will wake from version 15.39.6.
It's a deal; thank you Jean.
WoL still fails on my PC with v15.43.8.
@ComPage The WOL feature is back for devices running TeamViewer (Classic), the old interface.
Please see [Windows] v15.43.8 for the full changelog.
I'll let you know in this thread once we have news to share. 🙂 Deal?
Thank you Jeank, it is good to hear that you are working on it. How will you let me know?
Our dev team is working on fixing this. I'll inform you once it's implemented.
Writing in this thread after every minor release won't accelerate the process, I am afraid...
Version 15.43.6 also fails to wake a computer that will wake from version 15.39.6.
Version 15.42.9 also fails to wake a computer that will wake from version 15.39.6.
Version 15.42.8 also fails to wake a computer that will wake from version 15.39.6.
