After installing Teamviewer and creating your TeamViewer account, follow these recommendations to ensure the highest level of security tailored to your needs.
Secure your account: Set up two-factor authentication (TFA)
Two-factor authentication (TFA) adds an extra layer of security to your TeamViewer account. Even if someone has your password, they can't access your account without the second factor: a security code.

Secure your devices: Use an allowlist
An allowlist ensures that only trusted people or devices can connect to your device. You may add your account, multiple accounts, or allow access from your whole company.
If there is someone who only needs to make a connection once, you can add them to your allowlist manually and remove them again after the connection.
⚠️ When you allow someone else to connect to your device, make sure it is someone you know and fully trust. Providing them access to your device is like allowing someone into your house. Think twice before granting access, and rather consult with someone else if you are in doubt.

Use Easy Access for Secure, Password-less Connections
Easy Access allows you to connect to your devices without needing a password, using public key cryptography for enhanced security.
Watch our YouTube video on How to set up unattended device access
We recommend setting up Easy Access for unattended access scenarios. We strongly recommend you learn about Easy Access and how to grant access to your devices instead of using the personal password for device access. Easy access uses public key cryptography to grant access to your devices, which is much more secure than traditional passwords for many reasons.

Control Access with Two-Factor Authentication (TFA) for Connections
Authorize connections to your devices using TFA, ensuring that every access attempt is verified on your phone.

Strong password hygiene
Wherever a password is needed, follow these best practices:
- Use a password manager to generate unique, strong passwords.
- Strong passwords should be at least 12 characters long, combining uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
- Avoid dictionary words or common terms.
- Regularly review and update passwords, replacing them with more secure alternatives like Easy Access.
Disable the random password
If no one else needs to connect to your device, disable the random password feature.
To disable the random password, click Settings (⚙) ➜ Advanced settings ➜ Security ➜ Random password (for spontaneous access) ➜ Choose Disabled (no random password) ➜ Click OK.
Hint: In case you need to grant someone temporary access to your device, you can then still use the one-time-password feature (Windows only): Remote control via One-Time password
Update your devices
Outdated software can have security vulnerabilities. Enable automatic updates to ensure your TeamViewer and other software are always up to date.
How to enable auto-update:
- Activate auto-update for your TeamViewer full version.
- Ensure your operating system and other software are set to update automatically.

Back up your data
Regular backups protect your data from loss or theft. Use cloud storage or another device for backups and enable automatic backup to save your information regularly without manual intervention.

Enterprise Deployments
These basic recommendations apply to all TeamViewer installations. However, for large setups, we recommend using our enterprise security features, which allow for better scaling and customization (e.g., Single Sign-On, Conditional Access, and Auditability features).
