Lockscreen is shifted, can't access desktop

Hi there,

I'm using ubuntu to log in to teamviewer hosted on another ubuntu device. When I log on I am met with a login screen that has been shifted as shown below. I can log in, but then I see only a blank desktop. I can't ctrl-alt-del, or click on activities, or do anything apart from go back to the lock screen via teamviewer. 

This only happens sporadically although it is happening right now and I have to go back to the machine at uni and exit out of a few windows when I'm there, then it starts working like normal.

Does anyone know what could be the issue?
